ROMEOs plans for 2023

In the name of the ROMEO Team, I want to wish all of our users a happy new year, even though it’s a bit late. As the CEO and founder, I want to share our plans for this year with you. First, I want to talk about our motivation. We’ve been online for 20 years, and it’s a good time to check in on our mission. It’s no secret that there are more yellow app users than blue ones. Competition is always part of the game, and that’s fine. But we don’t think it’s a good thing that three out of the five largest dating apps for the queer community are based in Singapore and Hong Kong and Beijing in China. These countries aren’t known for being LGBTQ-friendly or for protecting data. We strongly believe that the worldwide queer community deserves a reliable partner, and we’d love to be that partner. But everyone else would do as well!

Our main focus for this year

Obviously, we need to grow faster, especially with younger users and in countries where we don’t have many users yet.

  1. We’ve been busy making a brand new sign-up process with the objective of having new users with more completed profile information and pictures from the start. We hope that this makes them more interesting to you and therefore makes them stick around longer.
  2. In countries with fewer users, we want to give more reasons to stay. We’re working on a new feature that will show you the most liked photos of the day and an option to see only the XXX-rated ones.
  3. We also need to address our technical issues from the past years. Unfortunately, our first attempts at renovation resulted in some technical outages at the end of last year. We apologize for this. Although everything seems stable now, we need to continue making technical improvements to make the next step possible…
  4. We’re starting work on a very exciting new feature that will bring you lots of great content to scroll through like you currently do on other social media platforms – except ours will be a LOT sexier. Sorry to say, this will take some time, and we don’t expect a release this year. Let’s hope Elon doesn’t kill the bird before. 😢
  5. Besides our major projects, we will address various smaller issues, with the goal of making our interface and design more user-friendly, especially for new users.

On the topic of PLUS

You may remember that we stopped advertising on ROMEO a while ago and also announced that we will focus more on PLUS. Due to the economic situation, we postponed these plans last year. Instead, we will release various smaller new PLUS features and restrict some features in the coming month. In the end, we also plan to change our pricing, but we’ll see how the winter goes first. I promise we won’t do anything crazy!

Thanks for reading, and all the best,

CEO Jens Schmidt
