Valentine’s Day-the time of year when love certainly is in the air. For some, Valentine’s Day prompts grand romantic gestures, while others scoff at all the heart-shaped chocolates and flowery expressions. But no matter your single or taken status everything in between-love will be loved, and it’ll be done your way.
Different Shades of Love
LGBTQ+ relationships have long challenged traditional norms, and that is a reason to celebrate! There are ways that people experience love apart from the bounds of a monogamous relationship, and here are a few of the many:
❤️ Monogamy: The classic, timeless choice; two people deeply committed to one another. It is about exclusivity, emotional depth, and growing together.
💜 Polyamory: Love doesn’t have to be confined to one person: polyamory can include multiple partners, each relationship based on trust, honesty, and openness.
💚 Open Relationships: Some couples enjoy the emotional exclusivity of a relationship while still allowing for sexual exploration outside of it.
💛 Casual Dating & Situationships: Every date doesn’t have to be an equivalent of a fairytale. People love casual dating because it puts no pressure on them while they learn what works for them in due time.
ROMEO Love Stories
Flying high with pure passion
Marlo found his lover Mike on our platform, and their story will make you believe that love is possible, let’s see it below.
Hello i am Marlo, I met Mike 17 years ago on ROMEO (when it was still named Gay Romeo), and I never imagined that a casual encounter could transform into a lifelong journey. It all began on a summer evening in Friedrichshain, Berlin—after weeks of anticipation, I finally met him. Despite his busy schedule as a cabin attendant, our connection was instantaneous and electric. Our first night together was as passionate as I had hoped, and by the next morning, I already longed to see him again.
What started as pure physical attraction soon blossomed into something deeper. We began sharing dinners, watching movies, and simply enjoying each other’s company beyond the bedroom. A few weeks later, Mike surprised me with a spontaneous day trip to Mallorca. That magical day—filled with hikes around Palma, cocktails by the pool, and swims in the Mediterranean—culminated in a life-changing conversation when he asked if I’d join him in moving to Palma.
Coming out to my family was daunting, but love gave me the courage. Within a week, I introduced Mike to my mother, and six weeks later, we moved to S’Arenal, Mallorca. Over the years, our journey has taken us across multiple countries, blending our differences—like my passion for Hertha BSC and Mike’s scholarly pursuits—into a beautiful, shared life.
Today, we live near Amsterdam. Seventeen years later, our love stands as proof that sometimes, when you least expect it, love finds you and grows into something extraordinary.
Until death do us apart
Sometimes life goes in a split of a second, but all the memories we build are real, the story from Andreas and Mark will definitely inspire you and make you appreciate every second with your loved ones.
I am Andreas and I met Mark on Romeo 14 years ago in Vienna. After a rocky start that nearly kept us apart, we moved in together just six months after our first meeting on April 10th.
We quickly rented our second apartment—our dream home—and have lived there ever since. We met most of our friends on Romeo. Mark loved writing and chatting, and we shared many moments of fun, too.
On April 10, 2023, we got married on a fantastic, sunny day.
Just four months ago, Mark was diagnosed with lung cancer, and on January 14th he passed away.
We took our last holiday together in Helsinki in September, as it was his birthday.
I am grateful to have known him for so long—even though it should have been longer, I cherish every moment we had. Thanks to Romeo, I have friends who have been there for me and who also knew Mark. It truly is a place for fun, friendship, love, and even tragic love.
Thank you for being here.
