Voice for the Rainbow Family

Election surveys generally do not take sexual orientation into account, creating a significant gap in understanding the voting preferences of gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and non-binary individuals. Although ROMEO is primarily a dating app, we believe that its broad reach across diverse societal groups enables us to collect meaningful data. Our goal is to give ROMEO users a voice and contribute to informed societal discussions.

Methodology and Limitations

We conduct polls during elections in all countries where we have a substantial presence. Our method is known as a self-selecting sample. We send an in-app message with a participation link to all users in a given country. Anyone interested can participate anonymously. We only ask for age and voting intentions, and we do not link responses to ROMEO profiles. While we don’t share the links elsewhere, we cannot rule out the possibility that others might. However, our survey partner is taking steps to prevent multiple submissions.

We want to emphasize that our method is common, but generally not suitable for making statistically robust election predictions. Additionally, the large group of lesbians is not represented on ROMEO.

Lastly, we ask for your understanding that we do not offer any interpretation or show preference for particular outcomes. While we do have personal opinions, we see our role as neutral ambassadors for all our users. Our only advice: Go and vote—make use of your voice.

Happy Voting!
